The EIT aims to train men and women in the Education, Engineering and Technology, and the Science professions to enable them to work as professionals in their respective fields with a level of competence compatible with national, regional, and global requirements.

Its objectives are 1) produce Scientists and Engineers that would contribute to the workforce needs of the country in the various areas of economic and other activities. 2) Produce professional and pedagogic teachers that the evolving national education system needs; and 3) Engage in scientific and practically oriented research endeavors to contribute to the development needs of the country and for the advancement of knowledge.

ICT and Tele-education center

The ICT & Tele-Education Center is recently re-organized to encompass the ICT center of the EIT and the Tele-Education Center, which was established under the Pan African eNetwork Project. The later started in 2010, and has been running several programs at Diploma, PG Diploma and Masters level courses with limited capacity affiliated with the ICT center of the EIT. The mission of the ICT & Tele-Education Center is to establish a full-fledged Information & communication technology center complying with the standard requirements of a tertiary Institution, which could ultimately be expanded to other IHE’s for similar establishment.

Amongst it objectives the ICT Center strives to 1) To achieve standard levels of Academic ICT Infrastructure and related services 2) To develop highly qualified and competent technical staff members in the various areas ICT for professional engineering works 3) To play a leading role in establishing ICT infrastructure and services for tertiary Institutions in Eritrea 4) To equip the technical staff members with necessary tools and software that are necessary for their activities at the center, including training in relevant areas of specialization 5) to establish appropriate Intranet for the EIT community that will help facilitate the teaching – learning activities 6) To establish a good support to research works through providing access to online journals and other materials and initiate research programs in support of the academic community

The ICT & Tele-Education center encompasses four units namely, the Network Unit, Application Unit, Maintenance Unit and Tele-Education Unit

College of Engineering & Technology

The College of Engineering and Technology is composed of six departments: Aeronautical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mining Engineering. Each department of the college is offering degree program and at least one related diploma program in technology.

Goal: The goal of the College of Engineering and Technology is to establish a full-fledged college having well qualified and motivated academic staff, with best quality teaching facilities, capable of producing well qualified graduate engineers and technologists by creating excellent teaching-learning environment. Besides the College aims at starting up postgraduate teaching programs in several fields of engineering and also initiating research projects and consultancy programs on relevant national issues.

Objectives: The curricula of each department of the college have been set up, in such a way as to address the current and the projected national human resources needs of the country so that the graduates are qualified enough to work in various areas of engineering which are crucial for economic and technological advancement of the country.

To achieve its goal and objectives, the college believes that the role of enabling ICT Infrastructure and applications is vital in establishing a conducive teaching/learning environment.

5.2.3   College of Education

The College of Education (CoE) at the Eritrea Institute of Technology offers programs in teacher education and educational management qualifying students for Diploma and Degree in their respective fields. There are seven departments, alphabetically stated as Departments of Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, Educational Psychology, English Language Teaching, Physical Education, Science Education, and Social Science Education. The CoE is also preparing to approve postgraduate programs (MEd and MA) in Educational leadership and Educational Psychology.

Conceptualizing the role and scope of the CoE would start from the diverse, dynamic and situated educational needs of students and school communities. The reference of the CoE would be institutions of learning across all levels, from kindergarten (KG) to institutes of higher education (IHE), in diverse communities. In carrying out the tasks to accomplish its role, the CoE recognizes the central role of technology in enacting and facilitating all the stated tasks.
